Homes in Mt. Washington are always in demand. The time for selling - or buying - a home in Mt. Washington has never been more ideal.
Mt. Washington is a residential community in the hills of Northeast Los Angeles. Situated just south of historic Highland Park, it is convenient to many freeways and public transportation routes but is off the beaten path enough to seem like a getaway from the city.
Mount Washington was founded in 1909 by real estate developer Robert Marsh, who built the Mount Washington Hotel at the top of the hill. He also had a cable car installed, similar to Angels' Flight in Downtown LA. Once the cable car was running, several residential lots were sold and Marsh began construction on the homes.
One advertisement promised the following advantages to those who bought in Mt Washington:
• Absolute freedom from noise or smoke.
• No undesirable residential element.
• The grandest views of mountain, valley, and the sea.
• Pure mountain air, high, dry, and sanitary.
• An environment of public and private improvements.
• The grandest water found in Southern California.
Today, many people choose Mount Washington as their home for the ability to escape the city, the awesome views, the beautiful nature-filled surroundings, the eclectic community, and the popular elementary school. The neighborhood has grown steadily over the years, which has resulted in a wide range of architecture. Everything from tiny hunting lodges to original Craftsman bungalows to stunning mid century design has found a place on The Hill.
